We are still chugging along with small harvests. 🙂 Patience is a virtue… sigh.
The tomatoes are still not ready. We have one that is yellowing at the bottom, but the rest are still perfectly green.
The corn is growing, and if our rowdy pup learns to quit eating it, we might get some for ourselves. He has torn down about 1/3 of it, but we are hopeful he has learned his lesson. The beans have stepped up production–if I hold them for a week or two, I might be able to can a few quarts in my new-to-me pressure cooker. 🙂 The broccoli harvest is done and what I am getting is about negligible. I blanch the little bits and add them to the bag of frozen pieces I have in the refrigerator. We dug up our first carrot this week to check on its growth and were surprised. It was about half-grown in length and about a half-inch in diameter. 🙂 I’m looking forward to them as well. The squash is having a rough time of it with blossom-end rot, so while I’ve still been harvesting a piece now and then, I think we may be nearing the end of that.
The cucumbers are growing very fast. I need to be more diligent in checking every morning because I’d like to can at least a quart of small dills, but I keep finding large cucumbers that won’t even work for whole pickles.
The bell pepper plants have flowered again and are setting more fruit. I have harvested quite a bit of cayenne pepper, so we have been eating a lot of spicy dishes. I am holding onto the banana peppers in the hopes I can pickle a half-pint or even a whole pint of rings.
